CAMPUS TOURS
September - April

This is an ongoing activity. We like to bring in 20-30 students from a particular career area on the same day. A program is designed for the students to sit in on college classes of their career interest. College Professionals speak to the students about that career area, the application process, financial aid and requirements of being a college student. Students may sit in on additional workshops, do a campus tour and have lunch on campus.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
March - May

This activity is open to Tech Prep Juniors. The application packets are mailed to Tech Prep Teachers in December. Students must be recommended by their teacher, write an essay and…. Only twenty students are selected to participate. Students attend 5 all-day workshop sessions on the LCCC Campus taught by area college professionals and business leaders. Students are given a scenario in which they apply what they have learned and present a solution to the judges and parents attending the awards night.

TEEN CAREER CONFERENCE
May

We will be offering the opportunity for your students to become acquainted with and explore a variety of career paths, and attend personal development sessions. Our goal in this activity is to help students in making informed decisions for their high school and college course selections in relation to their career goals. It is also an opportunity that gives students some insight as to the kinds of jobs and salaries that are available in different fields of work. Professionals from various careers speak to the students, and provide hands-on experiences in Tech Prep areas of study. Tech Prep Teachers receive packets of information in April on this activity.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS
September - May

The Student Services Coordinator comes to Tech Prep classrooms and works with students to develop career skills. This can be: understanding what it takes to make career decisions, apply for jobs, write resumes, cover letters, complete college applications and find financial aid. Information is presented on learning more about jobs, the requirements, the salaries and locations of openings. Contact the tech prep office for more details.

SECONDARY TO POST SECONDARY TEACHER WORKSHOPS
September - April

Held by subject area, teachers gather on a college campus and observe classes in their subject area and meet with college professionals to compare curriculum and get materials to help their students in making decisions about careers in that field. Teachers have the opportunity to network with other professionals in that subject area.

EDUCATOR IN THE WORKPLACE
June and August

"Educator in the Workplace" gives teachers a chance to interact with business, industry and community partners. Educators are exposed to an influx of new ideas, management strategies and the requirements for success in those careers. The exchange between educators and business partners helps to make the classroom learning more relevant and at the same time prepare students for success in the world of work and the current skill demands. Teachers meet for workshops on campus on Monday and Friday and then are placed with a business in their career area to work the hours of the host on Tue-Wed.-Thurs. Teachers are provided with a manual - journal to be completed and 2 lessons to be submitted. Teachers receive lots of career resources - worksheets-handouts-projects.
