Consortium
Tech Prep is...
- Preparation for career success
- Coordinated sequence of academic and technical courses
- Opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school
- Link between curriculum and employer skill demands
- Saving money and time in college courses
- Providing Career Guidance
This nationwide program began in the '90s with the Carl Perkins Act. Business and Industry made the shift from industrial age to the age of technology and the bio/nano age. Tech Prep combines advanced academic and technical career pathways to improve student skills for the workforce. In order to stay competitive in the global marketplace, we need students prepared to make a smooth transition from high school to college to the workplace.
School districts, technical schools and colleges work together to develop articulation agreements. An articulation agreement is a written commitment to a program providing students with a seamless sequence of courses leading to college degrees or certificates.
Students must be in tech prep for two years, enrolling by their junior year. They must maintain a "B" average in technical courses and a "C" overall while completing the graduation requirements of their school. Advanced placement credits are awarded at the college after the student completes the first twelve credits at that institution. Contact the NEPA Tech Prep Consortium for more information
